Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) is an initiative by Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Launched on 17th June 2004, it is a registered Society under Karnataka Society Act 1960. SMOI is run by competent Textile Technologists who are well experienced in the silk industry and its trade. They work tirelessly for the benefit of the silk consumers, stakeholders in the silk industry and for generic promotion of Indian Silks across the world. SMOI is headquartered in Bengaluru and has ten chapters located strategically in and around the silk clusters of the country. Authorised User (AU) Enrollment & Certification: Educates applicants, verifies premises and products, collects registration fees, and issues Authorised User certificates to retailers, manufacturers, weavers, and artisans of Silk Mark Silk Mark Label Issuance & Traceability: Supplies and maintains label accounts for paper hangtags and sew-in labels containing unique serial numbers, holograms, and QR codes. Enables consumers to scan QR codes or verify unique identification numbers to trace silk back to its origin. Surveillance & Quality Control: Conducts regular market surveillance checks and audits on authorized premises to ensure compliance and pure silk usage. Consumer Awareness & Education: Educates the public on how to identify pure natural silk varieties (Mulberry, Tasar/Tussar, Eri, and Muga) and proper care practices. Expos and Generic Promotion: Organizes exclusive annual international silk expos as well as regional Silk Mark Expos in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities across India to promote Indian silks and Vanya (wild) silks. Training Programs: Provides specialized training for salespersons and industry stakeholders on silk production, fabric varieties, testing and identification methods, and label affixing. Research & Development Interface: Acts as a bridge between the Central Silk Board's R&D institutes and industry stakeholders to help commercialize scientific technologies and solutions. Silk Mark Label SMOI introduced the World’s first label of authenticity for silks, the ‘Silk Mark Label’ in the form of paper hangtags and sew-in labels. These are affixed only on pure silk products by the authorised users of Silk Mark. Each label has a hologram and a unique number printed on it, which helps the consumer to trace the product back to the authorised user.
